ABSTRACT

It is a common assumption that the needs of twins and higher multiples are no different to those of singletons and all that is required is concern for the development and progress of the individual.

As Head Teacher of Knowle CE Primary School, Solihull, West Midlands, I had my assumptions challenged in 1992 when nine sets of twins were registered to start school. Coincidentally, the Chairman of the Twins and Multiple Births Association (Tamba) was giving a lecture in Solihull about the needs of multiples, and the staff and I attended as a result of the twin phenomenon that they were experiencing.
