ABSTRACT
It is in their Early Years in school that many children can first be provided with opportunities to embark on a great voyage of discovery into the human search for understanding of the possible nature of life itself, including the non-material dimension. It is through study of the great religions of the world that pupils may be introduced to the great compendiums of wisdom which have been found, by many generations of people, to be supportive in times of stress, or when one is faced with the responsibility of making an important decision. However, there are a number of misconceptions of religion in the school curriculum which need to be cleared from the pathway of readers so that we can proceed to examine the real purposes behind retaining Religious Education as part of the basic curriculum in schools.
