ABSTRACT
When Mrs Einstein was being shown round the Mount Wilson Observatory in California, the principal astronomer gave a lengthy explanation of the great telescope. He concluded that one of the main purposes of the instrument was to establish the shape of the universe. His guest replied, quite unimpressed, ‘My husband does that on the back of an envelope’.
