ABSTRACT

This dialog was tape-recorded [in 1965] in the TDR [Tulane Drama Review] office in New Orleans. Participating were Gilbert Moses and John O’Neal, Executive Producers of the Free Southern Theater, Denise Nicholas and Murray Levy, actors, and Richard Schechner, Chairman of the Board of Directors. However, the FST, like all fledgling theatres, demands a variety of skills from its participants: Miss Nicholas is also the company’s play reader and one of its secretaries, Levy is the business manager. The FST completed its second tour of Mississippi this winter. The company has performed In White America, Waiting for Godot, and Purlie Victorious in more than thirty Mississippi towns. The FST also played in New Orleans, Memphis, and Atlanta, Moses and O’Neal are its founders. The company is now preparing a new set of plays for summer and fall presentation, including works by Brecht and O’Casey; its headquarters are in New Orleans.
