ABSTRACT

Accidents occurring during the process of competition are the most prevalent and publicized forms of death. However, deaths also occur as the result of training and preparation, athletes pushing their bodies beyond the limits of endurance or perhaps taking substances that take a toll on them. Some deaths are related to the lifestyles of professional athletes: earning a living in what is often a glamorous and high-profile occupation may bring a performer into contact with the kinds of risks many others avoid.
