ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with a brief account of the main development models that have had an impact in mountain regions. This is followed by a more detailed exploration of the framework in which mountain policy initiatives have been developed, particularly at the international scale, which involves an appreciation of the wider political agendas. This builds upon the short synopsis provided in Part 1 and is followed by an examination of some specific examples of policies developed for mountain regions.
