ABSTRACT

Is it reasonable for an ex-drug pusher and political spin doctor to be appointed by political patronage to lead a state's public education system? Answering this question must inevitably review the political criteria and processes used to make the appointment. Recall, political philosophy is an appropriate means of making a disciplined and critical evaluation of the nature and justification of the politics and political infrastructure implicated in such decision making. The following case study describes and evaluates practices to uncover the actual political values in use, and then to evaluate the extent to which embedded ideals or principles justify current political arrangements.
