ABSTRACT

The principal Acts governing the power of Promoters to purchase, construct, or lease tramways, are the Tramways Act, 1870, and the Light Railway Acts, 1896–1912, and, under the former, applications for Provisional Orders are made to the Board of Trade, who may settle and prepare an order, which has to be confirmed by Parliament before it becomes operative, but under the latter Acts, if application for an order is confirmed by the Board of Trade, no Confirming Act is required.
