ABSTRACT

The second of the keys to mastery is that of being able to manage change, embodied in the ability to combine ‘western’ chaos and ‘eastern’ harmony. This source of managerial mastery, then, involves transcending the ‘east-west’ divide. In so doing you captivate the dynamic value-creating forces involved in changing established structures, and thereby create wealth, that is new products and services, through new knowledge. In that respect Charles Hampden Turner, together with his Dutch colleague Fons Trompenaars, have done more than any other management thinkers not only to highlight the differences in business approach between the east (Asian tigers) and the west (Anglo-Saxons), but to illustrate how they can be dynamically combined.
