ABSTRACT

The most immediate skill that trainers require is the ability to communicate with their trainees. Interpersonal communication is, of course, a huge and complex topic and we will frame our discussion around a simple model of the general process of communication before considering aspects that have particular relevance to the training situation. Crucial to this process is the assumption that the point of the communication is not simply to impart information but to effect a change of some kind in the recipient of that communication. That, of course, is the fundamental goal of all training.
