ABSTRACT
People have an intuitive sense that a death occurring at a young age is unexpected and untimely. Beyond a certain age, death is expected and viewed as timely. This is a major consideration for differences in grief according to the age of the deceased. Commonly held beliefs are less readily related to differences between men’s and women’s experience and expression of grief, although women are expected to express grief-and many other emotions-more openly than are men. But does this mean that they experience it more strongly?
