ABSTRACT
From the point of view of the children also the period of adolescence in the homes of twentieth-century Europe or America is not without its difficulties. These are related partly to the emotional immaturities and the unsatisfied personal needs of the parents; but they are also associated with social traditions in accordance with which many young people must serve an everlengthening apprenticeship before they find themselves permitted to exercise the privileges and enjoy the responsibilities of adult life.
