ABSTRACT
The route taken on the way out of school is determined in certain important respects by the experiences of a pupil within the school community. Success at later stages is related not merely to the initial ability shown in an entrance examination but to the type of training given in school, the encouragement received at home and in the classroom, the wishes of the pupil and the degree to which his basic psychological needs have received satisfaction within the school.
