In her introduction to the recently published Crucible of Crisis: Performing Social Change, Janelle Reinelt asks the following questions of relevance to both ‘political theatre’ in general and post-colonial theatre in particular:
What is the relationship of politics to culture? How does social change result in cultural change – or can various cultural practices initiate or precipitate change? If a simple base/superstructure model inadequately explains the dynamics of art and society, then how do they articulate?
