ABSTRACT

Educational research in Italy in the post-war years has steadily progressed from a philosophical approach to one which, while not ignoring the importance of this aspect, has become more scientific and empirical. This process, strongly influenced initially by psychological and social research carried out in the United States and northern Europe, is related both to the democratisation of education and to the link between job training and industrial reconstruction. In the wake of the destruction caused in the Fascist era and the war, the country had to build democratic structures from scratch and to recreate its entire economic infrastructure.
