TE: Have you seen The Dresser? RV: A wonderful film. Just wonderful, [laughs] TE: I love the storm stuff. He’s doing the storm scene from Lear and he’s raging about ‘Spit fire! Spout, rain!’ and then yelling to the stage hand: ‘More storm boy! Give me more storm!’ RV: I also love him talking to the other actors: ‘You see this light, this is my light, right here in the centre of the stage. You must look elsewhere and find what little light you can!’ [More laughter]

TE: I wanted to ask about your training as a priest and how that came about, and whether you’ve found connections between that experience and your work in the theatre.
