ABSTRACT

Research skills learned at the ninth- and tenth-grade level include writing self-generated questions, gathering relevant information, using searches effectively, assessing the usefulness of sources specific to the task, and following a standard citation format. For ninth and tenth graders, generating a research question to guide their projects takes a great deal of time, and this is often a place of frustration where students give up before they even begin the process. Research questions need to be revised many times before they become the core component of the research paper or project.
