ABSTRACT

This is very true and a good way of encouraging the child’s recognition of her or his name is to begin by labelling children’s property and the pictures and marks they create. This leads to easy recognition of initial letters. Grouping together names of the children with the same initial letter, on the wall for instance, will help the child to become familiar and at ease with the letters. Emergent writers often spot letters in their environment that they have in their name. It’s quite usual to hear a child say ‘I have one of those’ speaking of a letter of the alphabet, long before he or she can recreate that letter on paper.
