ABSTRACT
This book has been underpinned by a particular philosophy-that the early years of life are crucial and that what is learned during those years influences learning and attitudes to learning throughout life. This is certainly not a controversial view, but an understanding of how children’s learning is best supported in these crucial years is, and debates continue not only in this country but throughout the world as to what constitutes a ‘quality’ learning environment.
