ABSTRACT

Until recently, poverty measurement has received little attention in Central and Eastern European countries. Because of the imposed egalitarian distribution of income and relatively high level of economic welfare, severe poverty was hardly existent. Moreover, if poverty was present, it was usually denied by politicians.
