ABSTRACT

Content analysis is a suitably vague term that is usually taken to mean a quantitative analysis of data which started life in qualitative form. An example could be a set of interview transcripts, or openended questionnaires, which were designed to collect richer information on a topic than could be yielded from closed questionnaires or scales. In either case, the researcher's orientation is quantitative; s/he will be seeking to produce a table of frequencies which may well be analysed using a statistical test appropriate for categorical data.
