ABSTRACT

While gender relations are becoming an increasing focus of attention in the social sciences, there has been relatively little attention paid to their role in migration, particularly in the so-called ‘developed world’ (cf. Chant 1992). As Boyle and Halfacree (1995:44) comment:

Whilst there is often a recognition of gender differences in migration data sets, such as in propensity to migrate…we have yet to highlight these differences in migration research.
