ABSTRACT

Introduction The Spanish Higher Education (HE) System and university technology transfer strategies have changed profoundly in the last few decades. Since the 1980s, Spanish universities have become more research oriented, and the importance of knowledge and technology transfer has increased and had an impact on the performance of universities. Starting in the early 1990s, several interface infrastructures have been developed to foster university-business interactions. This chapter provides an in-depth discussion of the transformations to the university technology transfer system in Spain. The full potential of the benefits from university-industry relationships has not been realized and differs among universities. Our investigation implies that the role of Spanish universities as key agents in the processes of technology transfer and innovation needs to be developed further.
