ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the relationship between migration and the receiving society. It considers the issue related to ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. The chapter explores the relationship between migration and ethnicity. It provides the reader with an understanding of ethnicity and how it is related to a host nation's reactions to migration. The chapter examines the way that migrants assimilate into the receiving society. It analyzes how the theory of assimilation has changed since it was first formulated as well as its relevance today. The chapter explores the notion of multiculturalism and how this influences ideas about migrant incorporation into society. It describes the relationship between migration and security, especially in light of recent terrorists attacks in Europe and the United States. The chapter reflects on the issue of sexuality and migration, specifically examining historic and more recent reactions to the migration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) people.
