ABSTRACT

The relationship between feminism and morality has recently been one of unease and suspicion. Many modern feminists see morality as one of the phenomena from which women should be liberated, and they easily associate it with paternalism, restrictive regulation of women’s lives, and conservatism. It seems to be an obstacle between tradition and freedom, between subordination and equal rights. When viewed in this way, there could be no connection between morality and feminism. The title of this chapter could at most refer to an argument in which revelations were made about the norms and regulations which are imposed within feminism itself until, freed from moralistic prejudices, the scientific discipline of women’s studies can really get under way. This would herald a new phase in which subjective judgements could be replaced by objective knowledge about gender relations and those elements which need to be changed.
