ABSTRACT

Team approaches to management do not happen overnight; teams must be conceived at some point as a new entity, their brief clarified, their membership established and their mode of operation developed. A team may be created from scratch or an existing group may be reconceived as a team. Members and others with whom they interact have to learn to collaborate through an evolutionary process which is never complete and whose course may be unpredictable. The case study SMTs were encountered over a specific period in their team history. Even during this relatively short time, all members experienced some shift in their team practice and perceptions of each other.
