ABSTRACT
Research on gender issues in translation is still in its relatively early stages and although this topic has opened up lines of enquiry in the West (Simon 1996 and von Flotow 1997), it is uncharted territory in Russian literature. This paper embarks upon the topic by applying theories about translation to rewritings of a Russian text in which gender is a prime category.
