ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces you to the central role of RBL in Art & Design education. It encourages you to reflect critically on the resources used by yourself and others in order to determine whether they are appropriate and, if not, how they might be developed. You are encouraged to think carefully about the ways in which outdated attitudes and values can be perpetuated through the uncritical use of existing resources. You are alerted to ways in which you can, all too easily, reproduce traditional power structures by working with existing exemplars of ‘good’ practice and/or promoting cultural heritage uncritically and without reference to context.
