What are the lessons from East Asia?

There are two extreme views on lessons from East Asia. One is that its experiences were so historically and culturally determined that little is relevant or transferable to peoples elsewhere. The other is that the East Asians succeeded largely because they adopted good economic policies and created good institutions and any country that emulates them will also do well.
