Many people find the study of tessellations compelling. As Peterson claims, while tessellations have ‘seemingly childish ingredients’, the mathematical problems raised by working with tessellations are difficult, and even partial answers to those problems provide tools for ‘exploring the frontiers of mathematics’ (p. 73).
