ABSTRACT

All I had done was write the word SYMMETRY in large capital letters across the small amount of board space which existed in my room. (Not that there is anything wrong with blackboards, but there was so little visible storage space that I tended to cover the boards with displays and ongoing projects.) Most of the Grade 4s had reacted with excitement, some trying to understand the term, some trying to say the word, and some trying to recount their previous experiences. In this case, merely writing the topic word was enough to provide me with feedback about the levels of readiness of my pupils. No need for a formal pre-test.
