ABSTRACT

Music and games have often gone together in modern Italy, as we will see later. This may be one of the reasons why karaoke has caught on very quickly with the older generation also. In Club Med resorts and the like, karaoke has become a much requested extra alongside dancing, table-tennis, a swimming pool,

colour TV and games of all kinds. A highlight of what we call ‘animazione’, i.e. socializing activities led by a team of ‘animatori’, karaoke favours the exchange of stereotyped musical expressions by means of which complete strangers get to know each other in a more active way than sitting in front of a TV set or a chess deck or on a tennis court.
