ABSTRACT
In this introduction I will present a few of the results of this larger project which explored the nature, quantity, and increase of street robbery in The Netherlands, particularly in Amsterdam. The study was carried out between 19911994 and in order to assess the nature, quantity, and increase in street robbery, field work was done involving the observation of all the stages of the criminal justice process from police patrols to probation work.
