ABSTRACT
There can be little doubt that the newest weapon in medicine’s armory—the rapid development in genetic knowledge—has had, and will continue to have, a profound impact on humanity. As the knowledge grows exponentially, it is equally certain that every citizen will have cause to evaluate its impact on him or herself. The so-called genetic revolution will fuel reappraisal of conventional medicine, will raise complex and subtle ethical problems at both a personal and a community level and will challenge the law to make a sophisticated response.
