ABSTRACT

Michiyo Cornell wrote “Living in Asian America” for the first March on Washington in 1979. 1 Unlike her, I am not writing to present these thoughts in front of a monument. Nor do I represent a collective body of Queer Asian Americans. However, I am discussing some issues that she raised then and that today are still sites of struggle for Asian and Pacific Islander (API) lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals. These are the issues that form the basis of our struggle for our cultural and political citizenship as members of sexually and racially marginalized cultures.
