ABSTRACT

Beerbohm (1872-1956) had met Wilde in 1889, but not until 1893 did he come to know him well. Turner (1869-1938), also an admirer of Wilde, had left Merton College, Oxford, in 1892 and was reading for the Bar. One of Wilde’s intimate circle, he was present when Wilde died in Paris. Turner later published twelve unsuccessful novels and, like Beerbohm, lived for many years in Italy.
