ABSTRACT

In this book we have attempted to fuse a discussion about the ideals behind inclusion with a picture of an inclusion project in practice. Our aim in the two parts of the book has been to straddle the theory-practice divide, seeking at all times to look both to theory and practice – to keep in mind the strong principles behind the move to inclusion whilst observing and noting the practical challenges to be met. We have therefore tried to inform the theoretical discussion with our research findings, and to examine those findings in the context of the theoretical discussion. We have intended in this process to examine difficulties and challenges in the light of others’ experiences and to make recommendations on the basis of that examination. Those recommendations are summarised below. The recommendations from Part I are general ones, while those from Part II relate both to inclusion in general and specifically to the introduction of inclusion projects.
