ABSTRACT
Questions of land use and landscape are arguably very domestic, local preoccupations. Decisions which directly affect them are made very close to the ground-the way a hedgerow is managed, what kind of development gets consent, for example-and debates about land use and landscape often reflect particular cultural values, traditions and local perceptions.
