ABSTRACT
Acquisitions librarians have always needed to develop expertise in certain areas of law, including copyright, purchasing, and record keep ing. The proliferation of electronic resources has compelled acquisi tions librarians to become skilled in yet another legal subject. Since nearly all electronic resources are licensed instead of sold, librarians today need a sure grasp of the principles of contract law as they pertain to access to digital materials.
