ABSTRACT

For our purpose, the interest in Rorty’s work lies in its representative quality. It is an expression of those Positivist views which have been dominant in Western philosophy for the better part of two centuries and which, in the hands of their successors, have transformed the work of Peirce and James. It has the merit of taking those views to what some will consider their logical conclusion. In this chapter, we must consider some remaining elements in these views and then assess their impact on Pragmatism.
