ABSTRACT

Stories are used in educational settings to provide children with opportunities to view and hear language, and to develop an interest in reading. As has been stated:

Reading is one of the most important life skills. The ability to read quickly and understand the myriad of written messages that surrounds us enables us to function in a literate society. Every day we read and act upon things as signs, directions and forms – an inability to do so could result in at worst, a traffic accident or at best, trouble with the Inland Revenue.
