ABSTRACT

Many studies have found that quality circle activities of employees contribute to the improvement of organizational effectiveness. Onglatco and Matsui (1984) found, based on a cross-lagged correlational analysis, that quality circle activities improved the efficiency of bank operations. Gunati-lake (1984) found that the efficiency of processing medical records in a hospital was significantly improved by quality circle activities. Mohrman and Novelli (1985) reported that quality circle activities in a warehouse improved the productivity of loading. Onglatco (1988) reported a case where the changes in work-shift schedule during lunchtime that was made based on the suggestions from a quality circle in a bank reduced the time spent per transaction from 8 min 54 sec to 5 min 44 sec.
