ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the interface of the science and practice of industrial! organizational (110) psychology in the area of predicting managerial success . Although prediction and selection represent areas in 110 psychology where science and practice have successfully interacted, the exchange has been less successful in the identification of managerial potential. This is unfortunate; both organizational leaders and scientists have labeled managerial talent a critical national resource (Campbell, Dunnette, Lawler, & Weick, 1970). In this chapter we address the science-practice interface by introducing a different theoretical perspective for understanding and predicting the realization of managerial potential.
