ABSTRACT

One significant contribution of Industrial and Organization Psychology to management development in the United States is the use of simulations in managerial research, assessment, and training. In this chapter, we discuss the history, uses, theory, and types of simulations as an example of the scientist/practitioner model operating in exemplary form. Specifically, we provide examples where there has been and continues to be a healthy interchange between scientists and practitioners in the use of simulations for managerial development. Although the interchange has been extensive, there are opportunities for further collaboration. Therefore, the chapter also includes a discussion of questions and contributions that scientists and practitioners have ignored or have not communicated to each other.
