ABSTRACT

The most difficult aspect of monitoring is understanding that we are looking at the delivery of the curriculum and not at the individual. This is where classroom monitoring differs from classroom observation in appraisal. With appraisal we are looking at the individual teacher with a view to promoting improvement as part of the staff development programme. Classroom monitoring must not involve personalities but keep to the delivery of the curriculum. The success of this approach will very much depend on interpersonal skills and experience.
