ABSTRACT

Effective supervision and strategies for management of staff are critical components of any working relationship. Efficient manage ment of staff to meet the ever increasing demands of the health care system is perhaps one of the biggest challenges facing the occupa tional therapy supervisor of today and of the future (Occupational Therapy Newspaper, 1984). As registered occupational therapists

(therapists) address these demands, effective use of certified occu pational therapy assistants (assistants) will become increasingly im portant in providing cost-effective services. Several documents ex ist in the literature that describe role delineation, mobility or career opportunities, and supervision of assistants. However, to date, there are few publications that address utilization of existing infor mation and its application to supervision of assistants.
