Nature is like a machine. Humans are separate from nature because they have logic and understanding. The universe obeys mathematical laws. The decentring of humans in a heliocentric (sun-centred) solar system. Science becomes increasingly free from values of religion. The increasing importance of ‘rational calculation’ informing human
attitudes to nature. The growing importance of secular linear time. Increasing focus on ideas of progress, improvement and control concerning
human interventions in nature.
