ABSTRACT

The purpose of refinement is twofold. First, a refinement facility provides a basis for capturing insights that are gained from the exercise of acquisition. Second, a refinement facility provides the means with which to modify a model to reflect changing preferences over time. There are several reasons that a model of choice may require repairs, including changes in the attitudes of users over time and changes in the decision-making situation (Zeleny, 1982). In short, refinement is a tool for incremental model correction.
