ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a perspective on parental choice of schools, using work on organisational theory to locate questions of choice within a view of the way schools as organisations respond to external pressures or influences. We ask whether the assumptions of choice advocates are consistent with what we know about organisational change and in particular with our knowledge about how school systems understand and respond to external change.
