ABSTRACT
Integration is emerging as a basic principle and objective of EU environmental policy. It requires that environmental factors are taken into account in the formulation and implementation of all sectoral policies. Integration also involves a cross-sectoral dimension since environmental problems such as climate change, biodiversity and water management necessitate tackling the multiple causes and sources of pollutant emissions and natural resource mismanagement across sectors.
